Bayern Munich's President gets jailed for tax evasion with a non- unlimited jail term though!

Bayern Munich's president, Uli Hoeness was found guilty of tax evasion and he was sentenced to three and a half years in prison after the smart-wise man tried not to declare a Swiss bank account he owned and finally evaded getting taxed.

The 62-year-old Hoeness, one of the most powerful figures in German soccer, was initially charged with dodging 3.5 million euros ($4.85 million) in taxes through the Swiss account.

But when his trial opened Monday he admitted to avoiding 15 million euros more. Then it came out through an examination of documents he provided to investigators shortly before the trial that he owed 27.2 million euros in total — a number Hoeness did not dispute.

Hoeness had faced up to 10 years in prison, and the sentence came between the 5½ years suggested by the prosecution and the defense's plea for probation, based on the fact that he had turned himself in for tax evasion and provided details to the court, the dpa news agency reported.

Following the verdict, defense attorney Hanns Feigen said he would appeal the decision to see how a higher court would value Hoeness' "not ideal" confession. He added that he was convinced the appeals court would come to a "better result" than the Munich state court did.

Hoeness will remain free on bail pending the outcome of the appeal.

German authorities have been cracking down on tax evaders in recent years, and have recovered hundreds of millions of euros. Their widely-publicized purchase of leaked account information on thousands of investors, as well as high-profile cases such as that against Hoeness and former Deutsche Post AG CEO Klaus Zumwinkel, has led to thousands of people turning themselves in.

Hoeness, who also is part owner of a Nuremberg sausage factory, reported himself to the tax authorities last April — around the same time that German media were investigating reports of high-profile tax evaders.

News of the case against the national icon prompted even Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman to weigh in and say the country's leader was disappointed in him.

As a player, Hoeness was a Bayern star who won the 1972 European Championship and the 1974 World Cup with West Germany and three straight European Cups — the predecessor of the Champions League — before retiring in 1979 with chronic knee problems.

He became the Bundesliga's youngest coach when he was 27.

Nigerian telecoms operators sue NCC after paying $4 million fine over poor service quality

According to recent reports gathered by the Human IPO the top Nigerian telecoms operators have sued NCC in respect of the $4 million fine placed on the on the telecom operators for poor service quality. See the full reports below....

Top Nigerian telecoms operators MTN, Globacom and Airtel have paid the fines imposed on them by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for poor service quality, putting an end to speculation they were set to challenge the regulatory body’s decision.

Last month the NCC had fined MTN, Globacom and Airtel a total of NGN647.5 million (US$4 million) for breaching key performance indicators (KPIs) and providing poor quality of service for the month of January this year, though Nigeria’s National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) subsequently asked a court to issue an interlocutory injunction on the NCC while it was established where the money obtained would go.

The top Nigerian telecoms operators are really M*D about the whole $4 million NCC fine imposed on them for their poor service quality.

Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) Gbenga Adebayo told This Day the operators had reluctantly agreed to pay the fines, but said they would not solve the challenges of poor service quality and only aggravate the situation.

“The operators decided to play the role of the obedient students to their teacher, since the fine was paid out of bitterness and pain, and I pray that it will not get to a level where the subscribers will begin to fight the operators for depriving them of what belongs to them,” he said.

He urged the NCC to discontinue imposing fines, saying the regulator was not interested in addressing the issues that were giving rise to poor service quality in the country.

At the presentation of MTN’s 2013 financial results, the company’s corporate service executive Wale Goodluck, said the one-month ban imposed on the networks by the NCC would not have significant impact on the market share of the three operators, but would only affect their distributors, who depend on the sale of SIM cards as source of income.

Super Eagles to earn $100k for Brazil 2014 world cup tournament, win or not!

Nigeria’s footballers stand to gain more than $100,000 each, should the African champions win every game at the World Cup and win the tournament, according to figures submitted to parliament this week.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is requesting that legislators approve a $7.2m war chest for the Super Eagles’ bid to become the competition’s first African winners.

Each player will pocket $10,000 for every group stage victory, according to the budget, which was submitted on Monday. Wins in the round of 16 carry a $12,000 bonus, $15,000 in the quarter-final; $20,000 in the semi-final; and $30,000 in the final itself.

In addition, every one of the 23-man squad will get a daily allowance of $200, taking the potential total amount of win bonuses and allowances for the 32-day competition to $2.6m.

The remaining cash will go towards the fees of coaches and backroom staff, the cost of accommodation, business class air travel and the team’s training camps in both the US and Brazil.
Nigeria have previously been beset by financial problems, in particular over the size of win bonuses that have seen heated discussions between players and the NFF.

Coach Stephen Keshi and his assistants have even gone months without pay, forcing the government, which funds the NFF, to step in.

No one was immediately available for comment at Dangote’s office when contacted by AFP, but the tycoon was reported saying he had been waiting for the NFF to get in touch.

"We will write to them, asking for the account numbers of the players, then we’ll make the transfer immediately," he was quoted as saying on the corporation’s sport website.

FGN advocates secret trial for 3 Boko Haram suspects and they may be getting a very looong jail-term!

The Federal government of Nigeria has asked not ordered an Abuja Federal High Court to conduct a "secret trial" for the three men charged with alleged connections with the craziest, currently trending on twitter death tolls, Boko Haram.

According to reports gathered, the Federal Government on Monday asked an Abuja Federal High Court  to conduct "secret trial" for the three men charged with alleged links with the Boko Haram insurgents.

A Chief State Counsel, Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, N.B Jones Nebo, who made the application, said it became necessary to protect the identity of its witnesses.

Three accused persons, Mohammed Yunus, Musa Umar and Salami Abdullahi, were arraigned on an eight-count charge bordering on terrorism.

They were arrested and detained in October 2013, for allegedly holding various meetings aimed at carrying out insurgency across the country.

Nebo also said that the prosecution’s motion was brought pursuant to Sections 33 and 34 of the Terrorism Prevention Act 2013, as amended, and Section 115 of the Evidence Act.

She argued that the application complied Sections 36 and 203 of the Criminal Procedure Act which supported the non-disclosure of identities and names of witnesses.

Hassan Liman, SAN, James Ocholi, SAN, Abdul Mohammed, counsel to the first, second and third accused, respectively, opposed the application.

They urged the court to dismiss the application, contending that it lacked merit.

Ocholi, specifically said: "this application is in conflict with Section 36 (4) of the 1999 Constitution, which pertains to fundamental rights and fair hearing.

"Fundamental rights, public hearing and fair hearing cannot be separated.

"It is easier for a person to tell a lie in secret than in public as there will be nobody to correct them in secret, and also where there is no publicity, there is no justice."

The judge, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, adjourned the case to March 18, for ruling.

We can't admit that Africa may have to dig into the ground floor of history books to get the last time that phrase "secret trial" was used in legal proceedings, Agree or not???

The victim of the "Morocco rape" fainted at the courthouse in the northern town of Tetouan when the 6-year-old Morocco rape victim saw Robert Bill, the suspected British pedophile, the man who was accused of kidnapping and attempting to her rape her.

We suspect that the Morocco rape victim must be suffering a lot of emotional trauma as it's like "JUSTICE MAY NEVER BE DONE!". Do you really think justice wouldn't catch up the "suspected" British pedophile ???

The head of the Northern Observatory for Human Rights, Mohammed Benaissa said, "We are calling for swift ruling in this trial, because of the suffering it is causing the victims"

The judge in charge of the Morocco rape case fixed the next hearing of the case for 11th, April. However, the reason for the delay wasn't really clear to everyone but the Moroccan's trial had been previously adjourned when the defendant's Moroccan lawyers withdrew from the case.

A quick reminder : Robert Bill was arrested at a petrol station in Tetouan last June when local peasants overheard the screams of the six-year old girl which he allegedly abducted. Bills's car was immediately surrounded by the local peasants and the police was immediately informed."She was the only victim present at the trial", Mohammed Benaissa said also adding that other victims of similar rape cases like the Morocco rape trial had been represented in the court by their parents. Prior to Rober Bill's recent arrest, he is accused of kidnapping and raping two Moroccan girls, the first in Tetuoan and the second kidnap and rape victim in nearby Chefchaouen. Robert Bill, a teacher has already served jail time in Britain following his conviction by a Welsh court in 2009 for attempting to abduct a five-year old girl. After leaving the Welsh prison, Robert Bill traveled to southern Spain and he arrived Morocco in November, 2012 via the town of Ceuta --- a Spanish enclave on Morocco's north coast---- .

The Spanish police had issued an arrest warrant for his separate pedophilia and kidnapping charges.

Jay Z Rejects Being Kanye West's Best Man If KUWTK Would Film Kimye's Wedding!

Ever since Kanye West became Kimye West, he has always had probs with everyone. From assault case to loss of public acceptance to some crazy $250,000 settlement for his "Kanye West Assault Case" and now Jay Z may not become Kanye West's best man.

I have to say that's sad!

Kanye West's best bestman and BFF, Jay Z has refused to stand before the altar with the Yeezus rapper because he doesn't want to feature on Keeping Up With The Kardashians' reality TV.

As usual E! are desperate to film Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's wedding for KUWTK [Keeping Up With The Kardashians] and this mighty just cost the Kanye West's bestman hype shot as Jay Z may certainly be without his BFF.

According to reports gathered,
"Jay agreed initially but had one condition - under no circumstances can there be any reality TV shows filming him, his wife Beyonce or daughter Blue Ivy during the ceremony"
Jay Z alone isn't keen about making a reality TV debut as Kanye West's bestman but the thought of "popping up in Keeping Up With The Kardashians mortifies Queen Bey".

Although Kanye West put his foot down for his 33 year old fiance, Kim K, the real truth is E! is paying millions to film their wedding.
